Brazil thrash Peru, move to semifinals of Women

Brazil ended their participation in the first phase of Women’s Copa America in grand style. On Thursday (Jul 21), the Brazilian national team thrashed Peru 6–0. The match took place at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium, in Cali, Colombia.

The Brazilian team finished Group B with four wins in four games, 12 points, 17 goals scored, and none conceded. Peru finished at the bottom of the group, with no points gained or goals scored, and conceded 18 goals in the competition.

Pia Sundhage’s team now turn their attention to Paraguay. The duel for the semifinals will be held at the Alfonso López Stadium, in Bucaramanga, 9 pm Brasília time on Tuesday (26). If qualified for the final, Brazil simultaneously secure a spot in both next year’s World Cup (in Australia and New Zealand) and the Olympics in Paris in 2024.
